ACME threads have a trapezoidal helical thread profile and are commonly used where heavy loads and high accuracy are required. For example, a vise or a lead screws. This thread has a 29 degree thread angle, a thread height of half the pitch (P/2), and a flat crest and root. ACME thread profiles are generally easier to machine than other thread series. Split nuts can also be used with this thread form, which minimizes nut wear, but increases the radial load on the nut and reduces efficiency.
A similar series of screws are square and column screws. Trapezoidal threads are relatively easy to process and highly accurate compared to square threads.
